Product Description
I created this butterfly-themed game to provide my students with extra reading practice AND science content. I tried to use sight words whenever possible, although I’m sure my littles will still need help with certain words. This game is a fun way to integrate reading and science!

This set comes with:

*30 cards with facts about butterflies. Sight words and short sentences have been used whenever possible.
*Directions to send home, if needed (One version has the IL science standards listed. Ink-saving options are also included!)
*A 2-page game board (with full-color and ink-saving options!)
*A decorative background to copy onto the backs of game cards
*1 page of EDITABLE cards! Add your own facts!
*4 matching game pieces

This game addresses the following Common Core Standards* for kindergarten, first and second grade language arts:

RF.K.3b Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
RF.K.3c Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
RF.K.4 Read emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
RF.1.1 Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
RF.1.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
RF.1.3 & RF.2.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
RF.1.4 & RF.2.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

This game addresses the following Illinois Science Standards for early elementary:

12.A.1a Identify and describe the component parts of living things (e.g., birds have feathers; people have bones, blood, hair skin) and their major functions.
12.B.1a Describe and compare characteristics of living things in relationship to their environments.
12.B.1b Describe how living things depend on one another for survival.
