This reading comprehension passage is based on chemistry concepts; the focus is on word and sentence comprehension, along with research based reading strategies.
Many students in special education classes are exposed to covalent bonds but lack the background knowledge necessary to develop this concept. This reading passage includes a focus on highlighting the passage, summarization.
Highlighting is so important to reading comprehension as it helps a reader slow down, which then supports a reader's ability to internalize the written information.
Further, a student's ability to process and retrieve previously learned knowledge on the subject, supports connection of personal knowledge with presented subject matter.
As you will see, this reading passage includes activities designed for student development of science vocabulary, improved comprehension and writing development, along with research based reading strategies including: previewing, summarization, vocabulary development and active reading strategies development.
To summarize, skills developed with this lesson include:
Long Term Memory
It is important for each student to have time to process the skills. Otherwise, students may be tempted to memorize the material, rather than comprehend.
Finally, it is my pleasure to provide my intellectual property which I have spent hours creating for students to learn; and so teachers do not to have to "reinvent the wheel."
There will be more science prefix and root lessons. Each lesson is designed for use over a period of time, not to be completed in one day's time. If you would like to purchase a bundle of science roots then click on the following:
