This giant PowerPoint is what I use every day when I teach the Virginia SOL 5.7 Changing Earth unit. Each day has a link on the initial slide. The first slide for each day is the lesson objective (I like the kids to see what we hope to accomplish during that lesson, knowledge-wise). Depending on the objective, there are some lesson slides, with facts/photos/diagrams to instruct. There are slides for note-taking, activities, partner activities, discussions, SMARTboard interaction, and gameshow instructions. There are school 12 days total for this unit, not counting days for your unit test. The PPT begins with the four layers of the earth. After that are days designated for Continental Drift, Plate Tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, the rock cycle and rock types, weathering/erosion/deposition, and soil conservation/watersheds. If you're familiar with Virginia SOL 5.7, then this PowerPoint covers any testable objective. I try very hard to have a variety of things in my instructional powerpoints - not just the teacher talking at the front of the room. There are times when the kids need to move, meet with a partner, come up with creative similes, draw, creative writing, etc. Stay tuned for some of my other Unit PowerPoints - they make teaching each unit very easy and fun!
