I have created a set of 20 questions to ask students as applicable, when reviewing for the STAAR Science test or during any Science review. It is my attempt to be focused and make sure the students are engaged in a thoughtful way as we spend time on Science review questions. It keeps me on my toes and the students on their toes. Done over and over again will help students to automatically ask themselves the same questions when on their own. Too many times I have seen students doing a "test strategy" because the teacher said to and they are just going through the motions. Using these questions to "question the question" can be done whole group, in pairs, or numerous other ways. Using these questions also tends to make test review a bit more lively and doable doing crunch time leading up to the day of STAAR testing.
