Get your students excited about science by sending them outdoors on a science scavenger hunt! The concepts and vocabulary for this activity were taken from second grade Next Generation Science Standards. Instructions prompt students to find the items on a list, such as a seed, a mineral, or something an animal needs, and collect evidence of their finds either in baggies or by making drawings as indicated on the scavenger hunt sheet. Upon return to the classroom, you can conduct a discussion about the items students found. Then have them process the activity using the reflection form provided. There are also notes to help you plan the scavenger hunt and a vocabulary sheet that may be helpful as students complete their reflections. Everything you need is provided except pencils and collection baggies. This is a fun way to get students to explore science concepts.
