Do your students like to chew gum in class? I know mine do! That's why this is a great activity to do with them while learning about the scientific method and practicing lab reports.
In this activity, students will predict whether gum loses mass, gains mass, or stays the same as they chew. The research aspect comes in the form of a survey in which they ask friends and family members what they think. They must write a lab report with clearly written procedures and materials. Students also learn how to take accurate measurements
This file includes a rubric, teacher guide, think sheet (pre-lab work), data charts and modified outline for sped students and/or younger middle school students.
This file is also included as a word document in my Science and Science as Inquiry Unit bundle, available in my store.
