Thank you for your interest in Science in Action: Growing Crystals! Suitable for grades 3-6.
Every teacher wants to provide fun and engaging science investigations that are EASY to prepare, FUN to conduct, and FILLED with standards-based activities.
This investigation centers around growing crystals from Borax powder (located in the laundry detergent aisle). Students will practice recording information, using tools of science, and engaging in discussion as they conduct the investigation. Handouts are included to connect the investigation to reading, mathematics, research, and writing standards with an emphasis on higher-level activities.
Links are provided to help the teacher develop basic understandings of the content. When possible, photos of the activities used in REAL classrooms with REAL kids are available. At times, student work samples will be included to show your classroom students a sample of a completed product.
