This activity can be used to teach or reinforce the scientific method. Students will see a discrepant event (hand blaster balls) and conduct experiments to determine what causes the balls to make the loud noise on impact. The primary focus however is on the scientific process including the importance of research and collaboration when conducting scientific investigations.
Included with this activity is a 5 page student handout and a 2 page teacher guide. The teacher guides offers a lesson outline using the 5E model of instruction: engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate.
The hand blaster balls are very inexpensive ($4 per pair) and last quite a while.
