Description
Are you looking for a Phonics Curriculum that aligns with the Science of Reading research? First Grade Rockin' Phonics has everything you need for 28 weeks of phonics activities. Using PowerPoint, you have daily interactive slides to help teach the skill using movement, phonics worksheets, and phonics games. The PowerPoint is designed to keep your students engaged while learning. Each day will take about 20-30 minutes of instruction time. Each week, there is a four-day rotation of phonics games for your students to play.

Phonics Curriculum Weekly Overview
- Each week follows the same routines so students learn quickly what is expected of them for each activity.
Monday
PowerPoint animated Anchor Chart
- Read through the chart together as you segment and blend words.
Drum and Strum
- Students will see a picture and pretend to "hit" the sounds like a drum. Then they will blend the sounds together and pretend to "strum" a guitar.
Word Sort
- Students will follow along with you as you go through the PowerPoint slideshow. Each slide has a picture and/or word and they will sort depending on the phonics skill. They write the words on their phonics worksheet as you go through the slides.
Tuesday
PowerPoint animated Anchor Chart
- Read through the chart together as you segment and blend words.
See it/Write it
- Students will use their whiteboard/marker to write words (depending on the phonics skill) as the teacher goes through the PowerPoint. Also included is a page of "sound boxes" that can be laminated as another option.
Rock Star Jumps
- Students will decode the words on the PowerPoint (ex.) c-a-t and then read the word "cat" together. There are slides that say YOU ARE A ROCK STAR and when you get to those slides, students will jump in the air and do a rock star jump.
Game Rotations
- Days Tuesday-Friday there are four different phonics games. You will divide your class into four groups. Each group will play a different game each day. Games vary throughout the school year. Sample games include Bingo, Go Fish, Snakebite (Old Maid), Candyland (similar), Memory, Snakes and Ladders, and 4 in a Row.
Wednesday
PowerPoint animated Anchor Chart
- Read through the chart together as you segment and blend words.
Drum and Strum
- This is the same as Monday but with different words. Students will see a picture and pretend to "hit" the sounds like a drum. Then they will blend the sounds together and pretend to "strum" a guitar.
Real vs. Silly Words
- Students will follow along with the PowerPoint slides. Each slide has a real or silly word. Students will record if the word is real or silly on their phonics worksheet.

Thursday
PowerPoint animated Anchor Chart
- Read through the chart together as you segment and blend words.

- This is the same as Tuesday but it has different words. Students will use their whiteboard/marker to write words as you go through the PowerPoint. Also included is a page of "sound boxes" that can be laminated as another option.
SCOOT
- Students will play a whole class game of SCOOT. The students will write the words depending on the phonics skill.

Friday

- Read through the chart together as you segment and blend words.
