Description
A sound wall with mouth pictures is a way to organize phonemes (sounds) to help support students with their reading and writing and is supported by The Science of Reading. The vowel valley and sound wall bulletin boards are similar to a word wall because it is used as a reference for students. However, it is different than a word wall. A word wall is organized by the beginning letter of words. A sound wall with mouth pictures is organized by the beginning sound in words. Instead of having 26 letters of the alphabet, sound walls have 44 phonemes.

This product uses high-quality mouth photographs of diverse children. There is also a mouth clipart version.
The sound wall with mouth pictures is based on The Science of Reading. There are several options for this sound wall bulletin board. Check out the preview to see all of the components.

The Sound Wall with Pictures Includes:
TWO OPTIONS: Real mouth pictures or clipart mouth pictures.
Each option contains the following:
- Sound Wall and Vowel Valley Instruction Guide- This guide details the differences between and word wall and a sound wall, how to set up a sound wall, different sound types, and how they are formed (stops, nasals, fricatives, affricates, glides, and liquids), and how to begin teaching using a sound wall.
- 44 phoneme sound wall cards- Use these cards to create Vowel Valley and Sound Wall Bulletin Boards. Don't have much wall space? I have created two different sizes. The larger size is 8x5.5" and the smaller one is approximately 5x3". These cards include real mouth positions, sounds, spelling patterns, words with the spelling pattern, and matching pictures for reference. You will add the spelling pattern and picture cards as you teach them.
- Individual mouth articulation cards- These real mouth pictures of diverse children can be used in your small group lessons to allow students to learn about mouth positions and how the sounds are formed. Real mouth pictures and clipart mouth pictures are included.
- Locks- Locks are included so that you can create your entire sound wall in advance and place the lock cards over the phoneme cards.
- Individual Student Reference Charts- Students can keep these charts as a reference for the sound wall and vowel valley.
Vowel Sound Pictures include:
short a- apple
short e- edge
short i- iguana
short o- octopus
short u- up
What teachers are saying:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I could not be more satisfied with this purchase! They display beautifully and have everything I needed for my reading intervention class. I like that this resource has multiple size options and both real and clipart mouths for you to choose from." -Cassi W.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I really like this resource, actually I love it. I liked the two different size options and ended up putting the larger option up on my wall and then at the end of the product, there were smaller options that could be used to glue in student notebooks. I used the student notebook ones and blew them up on our poster maker to attach to my cart that I use to travel from one classroom to the next for groups. I love how the resource it shows the mouth formation and it has the consonants organized by the type of sound they make. I think this was really well done and it will help my students a ton!" - Jessica M.
