This scientific investigations study guide and accompanying 22-question review worksheet reflect the content covered in Virginia Standards of Learning 4.1. Both the study guide and review worksheet are three pages long.
Key concepts include:
- thinking like a scientist (observations, inferences, predictions, and conclusions)
- steps of the scientific method
- experimental design diagram
- qualitative and quantitative data
- units of measurement
- displaying data
Note: The skills and content covered in SOL 4.1 are intended to be incorporated in all of the standards taught throughout the year. This study guide and review worksheet will be good tools for students to use when these concepts are introduced, as well as for reference throughout the year. I did go into a little more detail than is specified in the SOLs (i.e., including the steps of the scientific method) in order to boost student understanding of the concepts. There are also a few skills I did not include (analyzing a set of 20 objects, creating or analyzing graphs, judging contradictory data, and constructing a physical model).
