This is a collection of eleven different worksheets or assessments (all could be used in either way) that cover the ins and outs of experimental design - independent and dependent variables, controls and constants, hypothesis statements, and designing experimental procedures are all here! Great for emergency sub plans, as part of a back to school unit in a science class, or even interspersed throughout the year as continuous practice and refinement of your student's skills in thinking like a scientist!
Two of the assignments cover scientific discoveries of beriberi and penicillin, one of the sheets uses the Simpsons characters, and all sheets have experimental scenarios meant to pique the interest of students.
All in all, there are 23 unique experimental scenarios with which students can practice or show mastery identifying the independent and dependent variables, control groups, and conditions to keep constant.
All eleven sheets have answer keys. The reading level as measured on the Flesch-Kincaid readability scale ranges from 8th to 10th grade.
The preview file is a pdf of the entire offering (watermarked and copy protected) so that you can assess the usefulness for your classroom.
Looking for more than just worksheets and assessments? This group is included in a larger bundle. Besides these assessments, you'll get guided inquiry labs, powerpoints, task cards and even a jeopardy game to play with your students. If purchased separately, these products would cost over $27.00 - the bundle is just $19.99! It's a fantastic value, and everything you need to teach the scientific method to your students for the year. You can find that unit here: Scientific Method and Experimental Design Unit
