Scientific Method Task Cards, Powerpoint Notes, Assessments, Inquiry Labs, Experimental Design Jeopardy Game - it's all here! Over 15 scientific method assessments/assignments, engaging powerpoint notes that guide students through a better understanding of identifying independent and dependent variables, control groups, and conditions to keep constant. Two readings to tie in literacy with the scientific method, task cards to keep your student's skills sharp year-round, great labs to practice writing hypothesis statements, identifying variables and more! You get every product I have for sale on the scientific method and experimental design here on TpT at significant cost savings to you! This bundle contains everything you need for the year for teaching and reinforcing the scientific method with your students!
This unit plan teaches experimental design and the scientific method through:
• follow along notes
• reading comprehensions (great for deep, non-fiction reading!)
• guided and independent practice
• and task cards.
****FOR A LIMITED TIME - get this bundle and five more of my most popular products in August-September in my Middle School Science Back to School Mega Bundle.
Only $29.99 for over $54 worth of great stuff to get you up and running for the year!
Sixteen assessments/worksheets that are centered on critical thinking and a student's ability to:
• read an experimental scenario or research question and determine the independent and dependent variable
• determine an appropriate the control group
• identify conditions to keep constant
• and write a strong, testable hypothesis statement.
Several worksheets also prompt students to write a complete procedure and explain their reasoning for the answers they give.
The worksheets are high interest and all have scenarios that can be easily visualized by high school or middle school students. Readability as measured by the Flesch-Kincaid scale is generally between grade 8 and grade 10. All assessments/worksheets come with an answer key!
32 Card Task Card Set:
Full color with clip art. Covers hypothesis writing, identifying independent and dependent variables, controls and constants. Come with answer sheet template.
Great for warm-ups, station work, partner work and even class competitions!
Four high quality powerpoints:
• 45 slides that discuss variables, controls, constants, and hypothesis statements
• a jeopardy style review game
• a 9 question quiz
Do you find that your students "zone out" and fall into head-down, madly-copying, not listening mode when you use powerpoints? To combat this problem, I have set up my powerpoints in outline form and with simple, unobtrusive actions so that you, the teacher, can control when the next line of text appears. I find this gives students some reassurance that the text won't disappear from the screen before they have a chance to get down the main ideas. It also helps the teacher discuss ideas, because when students are more relaxed and less worried about copying down every word, they are more likely to listen to your instruction.
The lab activities included are simple in their need for special lab materials, and I believe that makes them more meaningful for reinforcing experimental design because your students are better able to make connections between their own recognizable world and science.
In addition to all of the material described above, there are two deep reading comprehension activities to extend your student's thinking.
The materials here represent easily two - three weeks worth of work in my classes. I'll use a lab or two and the notes when the year starts and then intersperse the rest throughout the year – as students always seem to need a reminder. I always add a few of the assignments to my emergency sub plans too :)
The preview file is a pdf of various pages from powerpoints, assessment, and the task cards.
