Psychologists wanted to find out if people are less likely to help in an emergency situation if there is a full moon. An “emergency” situation (a flat tire) was staged for 20 males and 20 females, all in cars. One-half of the subjects were tested when there was a full moon. The other half was tested when there was no full moon. Helping was defined as “seeing the flat tire, stopping, and getting out of the car to assist in any way.”
