This is a cooperative learning activity to help review the scientific method. I use this activity at the beginning of the semester as an icebreaker/scientific method review. Students will work in groups of 4(or more depending on the size of your class). Students are given a cup of objects to pass with a toothpick. I have rubber stoppers with holes in them which works well so that money is not spent each semester buying lifesavers. However, any object you have that can be passed with toothpicks will work. Students enjoy the trials, each time discussing ways to get the most objects in the cup. In the end, this is a fun way to review and to get to know each other at the beginning of the semester.
