Every year my students have had a difficult time understanding the body of scientific knowledge is continuously evolving and expanding. FINALLY, this year they see and understand using this interactive puzzle and lesson.
This lesson teaches a holistic approach to the scientific method. Uses class interaction to understand cyclical and ever expanding nature of science.
Interactive activity time (optional), using puzzle pieces:
- Ask for several volunteers, give each a piece of the puzzle and have them fit them together. The first puzzle should make a circle
- Ask for more volunteers, give each a piece of puzzle and the circle that has already been formed. When complete it should make a heart that includes the circle.
(Take-away) Science is based on what we know currently. As research expands, we learn more and get a better understanding of the world. Even what we know today may change as the field and research expands.
