The Scientific Method student packet guides students through each step of the scientific method. The packet provides students with the opportunity not only to learn about the steps, but to also practice most of those steps. I have provided for you the packet, a PowerPoint presentation that guides students through the packet, and a PowerPoint presentation with the answers filled in the blanks. In my classroom, I am able to use my Promethium board to write the answers in the blankets. I prefer to do that because we can go through one blank at the time.
If you choose to use the packet, work through it yourself and you may come up with some whole-group, partner, or individual activities to enrich the information. As I walk you through the packet, I will provide teaching strategies I use in each step. On the last slide, I put a link to a practice worksheet my students do when we complete the packet. I also encourage you to search the internet to give students additional practice identifying variables, writing hypotheses, and graphing data, as those are the most difficult concepts for students to grasp. After completing the packet, I do an experiment with the kids, going through each step in detail.
In addition to this resource, I have created a resource to introduce students to the science and the scientific method. It contains engaging activities to help get students excited about science from Day 1. It can be found at
