Scientific Method Using Effervescing Tablets

Are you looking for a great experiment to help with the steps of the Scientific Method? This one has some fizzing and bubbling that will be hit with your students!

This investigation uses effervescing tablets (commonly called Alka Seltzer). Students will use the tablets to learn more about what makes dissolving happen more quickly. After trying a few tests with the effervescing tablet, you have the option of letting students choose more variables to test to extend the experiment. Finally, they will conclude what makes the tablet dissolve the fastest! You can extend this event by having students design their own additional liquids to experiment more.

The package includes step-by-step procedures, helpful hints, and management ideas for making this work smoothly for you. Lab sheets are totally optional, although the data table is used to make recording more efficient for students. You can always have students design their own data table to record the results of the experiment.

This experience will take one class session to complete.

You will need materials along with this package, including Effervescing Tablets, water, vinegar, salt, small cups in two sizes, microwave or hot plate, timer or stopwatch, paper towels, and safety goggles.
