Scientific Method and Buoyant Boats- use the scientific method to learn about the concepts of buoyancy, capacity, density, and Archimedes' Principle while being engineers that design and test different boats, the weight they hold and different liquids.
This resource contains two investigations. One investigation is led by you as a guided experiment. Students gain exposure to new concepts, and practice following the scientific method as the teacher models quality questioning, writing and procedural techniques.
Then, the second experiment releases some of the independence to the kids as they design their own investigation to learn about different boat construction materials and how different liquids affect whether objects sink or float.
