Students will learn about the scientific method through vaccines, using the summarizing strategy called GIST. Three non-fictional passages are provided. These ‘fresh’ articles were written by the Teachers Pay Teachers seller, Rhonda Phillips. GIST is a summarizing strategy that can be employed in any content area. As presented here, students summarize three articles using two varied GIST methods. Modeling is key with GIST and this lesson plan and materials support that need. For students researching more about vaccines, a Discussion Web is also provided for added engagement on the usage of vaccines.
