Students will independently look up the vocabulary for the scientific method and allow those terms with a Sink or Float activity. You can pick up any type of fruits and/or vegetables for the students to observe. This is a quick introduction activity at the beginning of any science class to use as both a science lesson and icebreaker.
**I usually add salt to talk a little about density and go into a motivational soapbox about how the students can sprinkle in some salt (studying, tutoring, review videos, etc.) when they are sinking so they can float up to pass the class. It's corny but it works wonders.
