One of the first lessons I complete in a new school year includes helping students understand that we are all scientists. Wondering about the world around us and asking questions are things that scientists do every day. Throughout the year I challenge them to look at themselves as such. To help, one of the activities I have them work on is creating a profile of themselves as a scientist. They draw themselves in the lab coat and answer some science-related getting to know you questions. It's a great way to get a glimpse of your students and also encourages conversations within your classroom in the first weeks of school.
