I created this in response after many failed attempts to have students “research” important figures in Science. Research reports and presentations often resulted in snippets of information copied and pasted from the Internet. The resultant “learning” was weak at best.
The idea of using the shapes came from a differentiation course that I took when I received my Master’s degree. In theory, the different shapes focus on different skills that we’d like to help our middle school students develop. The students were required to choose one of each shape over the course of a semester or year. In doing so, they would research 3 different important figures and present their learning in three very different ways.
This template can be modified in a number of ways to flex with the needs of your particular students. Whether your goal is differentiation or personalized learning, you’ll be able to find a way to make it work in your classroom.
Scoring rubrics are available in the bundle.
