Scientist of the Day is a complete, "ready to use" science experiment program that is very popular with teachers and parents. A video endorsement by Dan Menelly of Science House can be viewed at sciencehousefoundation.org/videoscience-video-scientistoftheday/
Students love it--they can hardly wait to be the Scientist of the Day! Included are forms for students to complete, detailed instructions and pages for teacher record keeping and comments, and letters to parents explaining the program.
There are 46 scripted, classroom-tested science experiments ready to be photocopied and sent home so students can practice their experiment before their classroom presentation. The experiments use materials generally found at home. The guided questions help students know when to pause during the demonstration to ask his or her classmates to predict or hypothesize. When finished, students complete special worksheets where they draw and label what they remember about the experiment (What happened first? next? at the end?). Students love to draw these visual summaries and they are practicing many skills as they observe, participate in discussions, and record.
