Scientist of the Week - Mae Jemison

Combine core science concepts with non-fiction literacy skills, all while your students read about some of the coolest nerds in history! Students read a weekly passage about a famous scientist and complete a short activity each day. These make them ideal for bell work, warm-ups, or even homework. This week's passage is on Mae Jemison - Doctor and first black female astronaut.

Scientist of the Week resources cover Core Science Principals like graphing, analyzing data, charts, and graphs, asking questions, defining problems, explore science vocabulary, and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information.

They also utilize Informational Text Skills like citing text evidence, referring back to the text, engaging in argument from evidence, analyzing paragraph structure, determining the meaning of words and phrases, annotating as you read, analyzing quotes, and comparing/contrasting.
