My students are always in the playground or sitting at lunch time playing scissors, paper, rock. They are addicted to it! If your students are the same then this is the perfect game for them! This is a game for two players where all cards are placed facing downwards between each person. Players take turns drawing a card from the pile. Players then identify the punctuation symbol shown. Players turn their cards to show the other player to ensure a correct answer. However, at this stage players hold the card so that the scissors, paper or rock symbol is covered by their fingers. Once players have checked answers it is time to place the cards on the table to see who has won. Rock beats scissors, scissors beats paper and paper beats rock. The winner keeps both cards. When the pile of cards is finished, the player with the most cards collected is the game winner. Watch out, once your students start playing this game they will not want to stop! In my classroom I have printed several sets of this game so that multiple games can be played around the round at the same time. I often use a buddy system where I partner a student with strong symbol recall with a student who is having difficulties. Includes – 26 playing cards and instructions for use.
