Description

With more than 100 cutting tasks, this hands-on activity book teaches scissors skills to three, four, five, and six-year-old children. Designed by Lisa Marnell, occupational therapist, these activities are presented in a research-based, developmental sequence to ensure that scissors skills match children’s abilities.

The developmental sequence of scissors skills are presented in the same order in each of the Scissors Skills Pencil Boxes, as follows:

1: Make Fringe

2: Cut Straight Lines

3: Cut Zig Zag Lines

4: Cut Curvy Lines

5: Cut Circles

6: Cut Spirals

7: Cut Squares

8: Cut Triangles

9: Cut Diamonds

10: Cut Out Shapes

All Scissors Skills Pencil Boxes includes activities for each scissor skill presented and taught. Children can complete these activities in a few weeks or over the course of several months. Work in the chronological order in which the activities are presented. Refer to the Scissors Skills Developmental Milestones page to see what skills occur at what ages.

How to Use These Scissors Skills Pages:

First, children can color the black and white image that comes with each activity.

Now, they can cut along the dotted green line to make a picture.

Next, they can add another image to their picture. Look at the “Cut Out Extra Superheros” page to find a superhero they like. Kids cut out, color, and glue on another superhero.

Then, children may want to add some of the items on the “Decorate with Extra Items” page. Kids color these, cut them out, and glue them onto their picture.

Finally, kids can draw more objects onto their picture, like sun, clouds, rain, snow, rainbows, trees, bushes, rocks, logs, grass, flowers, bugs, ants, ladybugs, birds, caterpillars, butterflies etc.
