Scoot is definitely one of my very favorite whole class games and a great way to let students get up and move! This game will allow your students to practice their rhyming skills. These Scoot cards also make a wonderful addition as a Task Card independent activity to your literacy center. Since this game is Winter themed it is also a great activity for your class during the month of January. I have provided 30 different Scoot/Task Cards!!
To play the game, place a Scoot Card on each student’s desk. Provide each student with a recording sheet. The students will stand at their desk, then look at the scoot card on their desk. The student will decide if the 2 pictures on the card rhyme. Next, they find the box on their recording sheet that has the same number as the scoot card. They record their answer by circling thumb up for yes the pictures rhyme or thumb down for no the pictures don’t rhyme.
After a minute or two, the teacher calls out SCOOT! The students SCOOT to the next desk and repeat until all desks/cards are visited! If you have less than 30 students you can place the additional cards around the room.
You can check the recording sheets in class together or you can collect the recording sheets for assessment.
VARIATION: Place all cards and Student Recording sheets in a basket in your Literacy Center and have students do as independent or small group activity.
