Description: Students will navigate through a scooter board obstacle course called “Scooterville”. They will start by picking out a scooter board from the parking lot and bring their scooter to the “go” sign. The students will sit on their scooter board at the “go” sign, and they will see the first street which is Straight Street (a straight line of tape) and the speed limit is fast. The students will propel their scooter to the end of the street. The next street is Curvy Way (a curved line of tape) and the speed limit is slow. The students will propel their scooter to the end of the street. The next street is Reverse Lane (a straight line of tape) and the speed limit is slow. Explain to the students that reverse means to propel themselves backwards on the board. Make sure the students are very careful not to run into another scooter. The final street is Zig Zag Avenue (a zig zag line of tape) and the speed limit is slow. When they reach the end of the street the students will arrive at the car wash. They will lie down on the scooter board in a prone position and scoot themselves through the car wash (large cones with flags in between. Once the students go through the car wash they are back at the parking lot. They can then park their scooter board and pick out another one to take through the obstacle course. At the end of class each student will receive a scooter board license to show that they now know the rules of the road while riding the on a scooter board.
All of the street signs, speed limit signs, photos of the activity, and a scooter board license is included!
