Introduce students to two competing ideas in the 1920's, Christian fundamentalism and new scientific ideas. Students read introductory paragraph about the Scopes trial and why John Scopes was arrested. For the activity, students read a variety of documents that provide different perspectives on the trial (4 text based documents and one political cartoon). They use the documents to determine if they agree with the outcome of the Scopes trial. In addition, the lesson includes 3 extension lessons for a challenge option.
