In this activity, students examine seven documents, consisting of poems, political cartoons, textbook passages, etc, related to the Scopes Trial. Students must use the documents to answer two question: Why did some people support the teaching of evolution in schools? and Why did some people oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. Students must pull quotes from the documents to support the answer to each of the two questions. This activity can come before or after students learn about the Scopes Trial. An answer key is included.
