Are you in need of a fun way to engage those early birds? Want more students to get to class on time?
I was a rotation teacher and my students had to walk to my room for their Reading and Math lessons. This was a wonderful way to positively encourage them to get to the class on time, no dillydallying on the way.
This challenge involved a weekly theme. Each week a new theme is selected. You can put various themes in a jar or box and draw a new one out each week.
Students have all week to make a word that relates to that theme, add the total point value and record it in the class.
All scrabble work is done before the lesson starts or at the end of class. NO interrupting the class lessons. BONUS: My students were in a hurry to get to class!
I have included 52 sample themes ready to be cut apart. Also included are the suggestions and types of glue & magnets I used.
Stickers can be rewarded to their portfolios, name tags or something as a prize. A certain number of stickers can correspond to a larger prize, like a coupon for homework pass, or anything else that is honored in your class. (their pick of locations to move their desk to (behavior dependent), yoga ball to sit on that day in class, etc.) My students love to sit on a yoga ball. Gets those wiggles out! So this doesn't need to cost you any extra money...
