Reader's Theater has been proven effective to raise reading fluency and comprehension by giving an authentic reason to read and reread passages while discussing the text, voice inflection and pronunciation cues.
This reader's theater script involves 10 students working together to solve a mystery that could lead to a treasure. When Eli finds a poem with the word "treasure" scrawled across the back in his attic he enlists his friends to help figure out who wrote the poem and who it is about to find the treasure.
The actual poem found is Psalms 18. This information should be removed from the title page of the script before distribution if you wish readers NOT to know.
The play is broken down into 5 scenes with discussion question following each scene. Research prompts and culminating activities with interdisciplinary tie ins are included at the end. Run time is approximately 50 minutes excluding discussion.
