Unit 1 Launching Readers Workshop

Unit 3 Character Study
Here your students will gain knowledge on SO many character topics! A few include: character feelings, character traits, watching what characters do and how they change. This unit also includes lessons on starting book clubs within series AND anchor charts to go along with each lesson! This is a huge hit in my classroom and includes: setting goals, getting to know the characters, information you can find in the blurb, tracking the problem/big idea throughout each chapter, sticky note work, extending our thoughts on sticky notes, writing long, external/internal traits, settings vs scenes and even a fun celebration to close the unit!
Unit 4 Strategies for Reading Tricky Words
Are your kiddos struggling with reading longer, trickier words? This unit, designed in a fun Super Hero theme, will keep your students engaged while they practice the following skills: Using their "laser vision" to find parts in words, "Splitting the twins" in double consonant syllable words, "Wondering like Wonder Woman" as they monitor their meaning, and "Saving Super Hero Babies" as they practice making words smaller and easier to read by taking off the endings.
Unit 5 Introduction to Nonfiction
Let your students immerse themselves in this nonfiction unit by learning all about text features and how they are useful to readers, how to navigate nonfiction texts, identifying the topic and main idea of a section and text, turning facts into keywords, paraphrasing, creating questions, making predictions and checking to see if they're correct.
Unit 6 Traditional Literature
In this unit, you'll be able to teach the characteristics and plot of Traditional Literature including information on Fairy Tales, Fables, Folktale.
Unit 7 Introduction to Biographies
This unit includes lessons on comparing biographies to nonfiction as well as fiction. It also includes scripted lessons on characteristics of biographies (struggles, achievements, time period) and how you can apply/identify them to the stories you read.
Unit 8 Drama
This last unit is always a hit! What kid doesn't like participating in a play? In this unit, not only will your students learn key features such as vital vocabulary, using voice and gestures, all about scenes, scripts, and props, BUT they will also get to participate in their very own school play!
