If you can get the supplies for this project (plaster strips basically) it is totally worth it. The students love it!
This is a sculpture project using plaster strips. Students brainstorm ideas to decide on the position of the hand. It should be a gesture that represents who they are. Sign language is also another good option. Students use their own hand as the mold. To finish students cover the plaster hand in magazine clippings that represent themselves. It is a very fun project and keeps the students engaged. It requires teamwork, problem solving and creativity. Included is a 4 page student worksheet and a 4 page teacher visual guide.
