Finding nonfiction texts at an appropriate level for kindergarten guided reading groups is a difficult (and often expensive!!) task. With the increased expectation of kindergarteners reading nonfiction texts based on the Common Core Standards, it is crucial that teachers have access to leveled nonfiction books that their students can read (and want to read!!) With that thought in mind, I have created this book (and will be creating many more!!)
This book is written at an approximate level C. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text. The complete text of the book is included below, so you can see if it will meet the needs of your students.
Title Page: Sea Turtles
Page 2: Here is a mother sea turtle. She can swim in the ocean.
Page 3: She will come to the shore. She will dig her nest on the beach.
Page 4: The mother sea turtle will lay the eggs in the nest.
Page 5: The mother sea turtle will go back out to the ocean.
Page 6: Soon the eggs will start to crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
Page 7: Look! The baby sea turtle is hatching! Here it comes!
Page 8: The baby sea turtle will go out to the ocean. Look at it swim!
Page 9: When the sea turtle is big, it will come back to the same spot on the beach!
Page 10: This sea turtle will lay its eggs in a nest on the beach now!
This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!
