Product Description
This reading guide for Seal Journey by Richard and Jonah Sobol follows a guided reading format. The vocabulary section encourages students to use context clues to determine meanings of words and includes a picture/symbol column. This allows students to tap into a deeper level of understanding when they work to translate the meaning of the word into a symbol that makes sense for them. The Preview and Predict section contains thought provoking questions and encourages students to utilize the text's features to make predictions. Students further prepare to read in the Set Your Purposes section where they generate questions they think will be answered in the text. The Main Idea section teaches students to identify the main idea of specific chunks of text and to identify supporting details for a stated main idea from the text. This framework works well in all instructional formats, from small group guided reading, to independent reading, to a Literacy Center. The post-reading section contains 5 comprehension questions to be answered in writing. This section also takes students beyond the text with an activity for creating their own photo essay about a trip they have taken. There is a version of this reading guide available on TpT that does NOT contain page numbers, so that it can be used with any edition of the book. The teacher would then write in the page numbers in the spaces provided. THIS guide DOES have page numbers that allow it to go along with the MacMillan Anthology whose cover is purple and has a train on it. Look for similarly formatted reading guides available for a variety of other titles on TpT. Just search under the name Gina Giblin.
