This scale is based off of the book, The Incredible Five Point Scale, by Kari Dunn Buron. Please visit her site at www.5pointscale.com for ordering information. Buron's book A 5 Could Make Me Lose Control! is an awesome resource to use with this scale.
This is a tool used to teach students self-regulation and self-monitoring skills. This can be used with a variety of students and has been found to be especially effective for students with ASD.
Use this 5 point scale to teach students understand and learn emotions and feelings. It also teaches the individual to respond appropriately depending on what level they are on.
The goal of the 5 point scale is to teach the individual when they felt they were on a 2 or 3 and how to self-manage those behaviors to avoid getting to a 4 or 5.
Includes emoji's that can be used to cut and paste into the section "what does this look like?". When using this scale, I laminate and velcro the pieces. I love putting this together with my students. It is a great beginning instruction to using the tool and it starts building autonomy and independence.
