Search and Destroy is an activity where students will walk through the process of solving a multi-step word problem and deciding which information is needed and which can be eliminated as unnecessary.
Each word problem will ask the following:
1. What is the question you need to answer?
2. Read each sentence from the word problem and decide if the information is needed or not. (Students will be asked to write yes or no and then circle needed numbers or cross out the sentence in the word problem)
3. Write the steps of operations needed to answer.
4. Solve the Problem
There are 15 word problems in this packet. Questions are all multi-step and contain some unnecessary information. Skills covered include decimals, money, and fractions.
