This Search and Rescue kit has 20 mixed addition and subtraction word problems. This kit includes a set of the cards in black and white, a set of the cards with a gray chevron background, directions for printing, answers, and further instruction on how to play. It also contains the 20 questions separated onto two different worksheets to distribute to students if desired.
How to Play:
The cards are ready to print. Print the cards front/back. Once they are printed, fold your page so that a number is displayed on the outside, and a word problem is on the inside.
Disperse the cards around the classroom so that students can easily “Search” for their answers.
Assign students to begin at different cards/locations. Students should carry their math journal with them to record the steps they take to solve each question.
Students will begin by opening their first card, reading, and solving it. They will then look throughout the room to find the answer to their card. They will walk to the card with their answer and continue this process until they have solved all Search and Rescue cards.
If a student, or pair of students, becomes stuck at any time, they should meet you at the “Rescue” table for assistance.
