Students will love mixing, fixing and reading familiar poems. Present them during Shared Reading over several days so students are familiar with them. From there, there are many possibilities: reinforcing high frequency words, teaching envisioning, identifying rhyming words, using poems as mentor texts for a poetry unit, practicing reading with fluency, concepts of print, and more.
A fun whole class activity or literacy center. Post the correct version on the ELMO, Smart Board or easel and let students use their reading skills to cut up the mixed up lines and put them in order. They can even add their own illustrations.
This pack includes the correct and "mixed up" versions of 5 poems:
A Year Later by Mary Ann Hoberman
Five Little Pumpkins
Happy New Year
I included a page of visual directions: cut, glue, read, draw.
I made an effort to include the names of the poets/authors when possible. If I am missing a name I should be listing please contact me.
