These fall and Halloween-themed STEM challenges are designed to engage and challenge the youngest engineers. I created them with my Pre-K and K students in mind, but many of these tasks would likely be a good fit for students in 1st and 2nd grade as well.
The challenges are designed to be low-prep, hopefully utilizing mostly materials that you already have on hand in your classroom. I’ve provided printable direction cards for students that visually identify the materials involved and include a question inviting them into the challenge.
These challenges can also be used flexibly. I have experimented with using them both as one-time tasks for the whole class and having multiple tasks open for simultaneous exploration during STEM time.
In the pages that follow, you’ll find a picture of each challenge as well as a materials list and directions for assembly. I keep these challenges organized in storage bins that I can simply grab when I’m ready for my students to access these challenges.
I hope that these challenges will make fall frightfully fun in your classroom!
