How do you support opinion writing and procedure writing during centers without using lots of worksheets?!!
These prompts were created to make writing centers a BREEZE and save on paper, while also providing support to young writers for these writing genres. This resource should be used after you’ve already taught these concepts (as I have not included lesson plans, planning sheets, etc).
I'm constantly trying to avoid wasting paper with worksheets, so I thought I would create prompts that include support, maximize student writing, and also keep a record of their progress in a journal/notebook.
October & November include:
-How to carve a pumpkin
-How to take care of a pet
-What to do during a fire drill
-How to draw a ...
-How to cook a turkey
-Opinion: Halloween costumes
-Opinion: food at Thanksgiving
-Opinion: days of the week
Included in each resource pack are 5 opinion prompts, 5 ‘how to’ prompts, word banks, and kid-friendly instructions to be laminated. Please note that there are large and small prompt versions to fit the size of your notebooks. This adds up to 50 opinion prompts and 50 'how to' prompts for the YEAR to choose from! (Click *** here

Common Core Connection: Writing: Text Types and Purposes
Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure. (The CCSS specify four types of informational text: literary nonfiction, expository, argument or persuasion, and procedural)
