Doodle sheet introduction to earth's revolution and the seasons for fourth grade science is here! A perfect way to start the unit, practice identifying the seasons, or review for 5th grade STAAR! Differentiation included.

Earth's revolution around the sun is ALWAYS on the 5th grade STAAR, so make sure your students are ready!

I have included (2) versions, sized for both Binders OR Composition Books, with a simple and advanced explanation of the reason for the seasons and answer keys for both versions.

Grade Level: 3rd-5th, Texas TEKS 4.8C

Concepts: Earth's Patterns and Cycles, Moon Phases

Teacher Notes: Many students have some misconceptions coming into this 4th grade unit. Many believe the Earth orbits in a circle. It actually revolves the sun in an elliptical pattern, in which it is closer to the sun during the winter months and further from the sun during summer (Northern Hemisphere). The tilt of the Earth on it’s axis is actually responsible for the change of the seasons as the Earth orbits. The Northern Hemisphere actually experiences winter when it is closer to the sun, because it is tilted AWAY from direct light. Sunlight spreads out and the heat is diffused. When the Earth is furthest from the Sun, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted TOWARDS the sun, allowing direct light and heat to reach the area.
