Product Description
This is a 17 page "thematic" unit on Seat Belt Science. Has four labs in it. Takes over a week to do but probably under two weeks. I have actually used this packet for 3 years and has been updated each time. You must get the video: "Dynamics of a Crash" - this video can now be found on Youtube.
This is an old video but works great with several of the labs done in this unit. But you may use other video that shows a simulated car crash in slow motion. If you can not find this video all you need is a video of a test crash slowed down. You will need to know how much it is slowed down by to calculate the forces involved.

Unit starts out with a student survey. They then view "Dynamics of a Crash". The next lab is reaction time. This is to see how fast they are. A class histogram is developed and its great to see the spread of peoples reaction times. The next lab we calculate the force of the crash in the video. After that there is a lab on how much force a person can resists - they love showing who is the strongest. Then we compare that to the forces in a real car crash. After that there is an activity on reading graphs on car crash/seat belt statistics.

Note 12/19/15: Revised with a key for the pre-test - I will redo this packet soon and provide keys.

The bottom line is the students learn they are not quick or strong enough to resist a c
