This activity / worksheet serves as a good introduction to the relationship between secant lines and tangent lines. Students explore this relationship numerically, graphically, verbally, and analytically.
In Part A, students draw and calculate the slopes of various secant lines that approach the tangent line and discuss this graphical and analytical relationship.
In Part B, students relate a graph to verbal and symbolic descriptions to determine which of two values is larger, and then to determine whether a value is positive, negative, or zero.
An answer key is included.
