These Common Core Guided Reading quick starts are easy to use and implement in the second grade classroom! There are at least 4 different cards per each Reading standard (including Foundational Skills, Reading Literature text, and Reading Informational Text)!

The Quick Starts make it easy to align your discussion with ANY of the Reading Common Core Standards! The standards are listed at the top right hand corner of each card for easy filing.


These are independent and shared activities that students can do while you get set-up -- no more wasting time while students chatter while you get ready! They are also great activities to lead into your Guided Reading discussion!

--- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.2.2 Recount stories, including fables and folktales from diverse cultures, and determine their central message, lesson, or moral.

Craft and Structure

--- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.2.5 Know and use various text features (e.g., captions, bold print, subheadings, glossaries, indexes, electronic menus, icons) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.
