These 2 documents contain ALL of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) written in "kid friendly" language for second Grade English Language Arts AND Mathematics. The standards are written with "I can" objectives.
This document also contains a checklist of the same kid-friendly standards that you can use to mark off each standard you have taught or for student use. The checklist is in 11 point font.
The standards are written in large (36) font and are meant to be used to display the standards you are currently teaching in your classroom. Each standard begins with "I can..." and then states the objective in kid friendly language. After each standard, the strand and identifying number are written in smaller font (example: SL.2.2).
Each strand for reading and math is represented by its own color. For example, all reading standards are surrounded by a blue outline box. All writing standards are surrounded by a red outline box, etc. Each strand has a title you can use (reading, writing, etc.), as well as subtitles (key ideas and details, craft and structure, etc.) to help you focus your teaching.
Some suggestions for use:
-Print in color on cardstock, cut each standard out, and mount in your classroom as you teach them.
-Print in color on cardstock, hang all the standards in your room, and place a star by each standard you are currently teaching.
-Print multiple pages per sheet and print front to back. Hand the standards out to students and discuss each one as you teach it. Students can make their own notes about what mastery of the standard means.
-Print the standards for your open house or newsletters to help parents understand what you will be requiring for the year.
