There are many ways to use interactive notebooks to support learning. In my own classroom, I introduce an ELA skill at the beginning of the week. We then discuss it together as a whole class and create an anchor chart with definitions and examples. Throughout the week students practice the skill in their literacy centers, and on Friday they complete the interactive notebook page. I check over this work and meet with students who have demonstrated misconceptions or made errors. Another option is to complete the pages together when the skill is first introduced.

Either way, students’ notebooks become a great reference tool they take ownership of and go back to throughout the year. Whenever we are reviewing a skill in my classroom, you are sure to see notebooks out on desks or center tables.

Please note that these pages are intended for use in a standard size single subject notebook (8 1/2 x 11 sized pages). Most will be a bit too large to fit in a composition size notebook without adjustments to your printer settings.
