Enrichment and rigor were top priority when these resources were created. During the first years of my teaching career, I always felt frustrated by the lack of resources for my advanced learners. They were able to quickly and accurately solve the problems provided by our district-adopted curriculum, and any “enrichment” resources I had on hand were simply extra sets of problems or busy work. Multi-step word problems are one of the greatest challenges for many students. We should be providing students with daily opportunities to tackle complex word problems in the classroom so they can truly master this challenging skill.
